Welcome to DMAIL 2026: The Second International Workshop on Data Mining and AI for Law, a workshop proposal for IEEE BigData 2026.
Building on the success of DMAIL 2025 at IEEE ICDM 2025, DMAIL 2026 aims to establish an interdisciplinary forum for scalable, trustworthy, and explainable AI techniques for legal applications.
Workshop Description
Recent advances in large language models (LLMs), foundation models, multimodal learning, knowledge graphs, and big data analytics are rapidly transforming the legal domain. From legal reasoning and case law retrieval to regulatory intelligence, contract analytics, and AI-assisted judicial decision support, computational methods are increasingly becoming central to modern legal systems and legal services.
At the same time, the legal domain presents unique challenges for AI and data mining research, including complex reasoning structures, explainability requirements, domain-specific knowledge representation, fairness and bias concerns, privacy constraints, multilingual legal systems, and the high-stakes nature of legal decision-making. The emergence of generative AI further introduces opportunities and risks surrounding hallucination, accountability, transparency, and trustworthy deployment in legal environments.
DMAIL 2026 brings together researchers and practitioners from data mining, natural language processing, information retrieval, knowledge representation, legal informatics, human-centered AI, and computational social science to discuss the latest advances in AI-driven legal analytics and intelligent legal systems.
The workshop particularly welcomes research that leverages big data methodologies, foundation models, multimodal AI, and large-scale legal datasets to address real-world challenges in law, policy, governance, and justice systems.
The workshop will feature invited keynote talks, peer-reviewed research presentations, and interdisciplinary discussions involving researchers from academia, industry, government, and legal institutions.
